I am Etty Grad, lab manager at Tawfeeq Shekh-Ahmad’s lab.

I have gained my BSc degree in “human nutrition” in 1993, the MSc degree in “human nutrition and metabolism” in 1996 and the PhD degree in” pharmacology” in 2009, all from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel.

I have a vast experience in managing teams comprised of scientists and research technicians working to advance basic and applied science in the fields of pharmacology and biology research.

I have extensive experience working with animals, including knockout and transgenic mice, rats, rabbits and pigs. I’m skilled in performing (and training) animals’ surgeries such as hepatectomy, ovariectomy, blood vessels cannulation, intubation, ligation of LAD (myocardial infarction) and more. Additional lab techniques that I’m experienced in include: cell culture (primary and cell lines), protein expression measurements (Western Blot, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, flow cytometry), gene expression (RNA extraction, C-DNA extraction, Real time PCR and more), variety of metabolite and hormone measurements, extracellular recording from islets of Langerhans, In-vivo and in-vitro physiological and biochemical analysis of tissue function.

My current research project is centered around a new approach for treating and/or preventing epilepsy by means of CNS-targeted antioxidant gene therapy.
